Climate change is no longer a distant environmental threat, it is a powerful driver of human displacement. Each year, more than 30 million people are forced to leave their homes, and by 2050 this number could rise to between 200 million and one billion. Despite the scale of the crisis, global governance remains fragmented as there is no legal definition of a “climate refugee”. While narratives of mass migration are often politicized to justify closed borders, some of the most affected regions are shaping new pathways forward. Through compelling human stories and innovative initiatives emerging in Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America, alternative responses are taking form, offering models with the potential to resonate far beyond their borders.

Following the screening, a panel discussion with Matthew Scott (Leader of the Human Rights and the Environment Thematic Area, Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, Lund), Michala Bendixen (Founder and Daily Leader of Refugees Welcome) and Professor Tasneem Siddiqui (Executive Director of Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit, Bangladesh; Former Chairperson and Professor, Department of Political Science, University of Dhaka) will reflect on climate displacement through the lenses of human rights, law, and global health. Moderated by Sofie Hviid (climate journalist). The event will be in English.
