Pitch Event: Student Perspectives on Health Innovation in Kibera
How can student perspectives shape Denmark’s development cooperation? How are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) applied in real life? And how can students help local organisations tackle health challenges in Kibera, Africa’s largest informal settlement?
Join us Friday, 16 January from 09:45–12:45 at UCPH Lighthouse KUB Nord for an inspiring morning where 15 students from the University of Copenhagen (UCPH) present innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
About the Programme
As part of the Study and Innovation Programme in Kenya, 15 students from the University of Copenhagen spent two weeks in Kibera, Africa’s largest informal settlement. They worked hand-in-hand with local partners, interviewed residents, and connected with organisations dedicated to improving community livelihoods. During their stay, the students engaged with a wide range of stakeholders – from community leaders, parents, and educators to water distributors, loan groups, youth ambassadors, and health workers.
They observed, listened, and reflected. Back in Copenhagen, they have transformed these insights into concrete ideas and innovative approaches. At the pitch event, the students will present their solutions to four pressing challenges:
- Access to reusable menstrual products
- Microfinancing models for water and sanitation
- Community adoption of biogas
- Sexual & reproductive health engagement for boys with disabilities
