Summer School in Global Health Challenges

The Copenhagen School of Global Health offers a two-week full-time course in Global Health Challenges taught in English.

75 applicants will be selected to participate in the course.
Applicants will be informed if they have been admitted by 10 May 2013.

Course fee

DKK 1900,00 (250 euro)
Students enrolled at the University of Copenhagen are exempted from payment but must pay the obligatory DKK 350 for the literature.
The fee must be transferred one month before start of the course.

Objective

The objective of the course is to introduce the students to the effects of globalization on health and health systems internationally as well as in Denmark. We will touch upon topics such as development aid, economics, global actors and health policies, communicable and non-communicable diseases, migration, brain-drain, violent conflict, refugees, human rights, poverty and access to health care. Classes will be a mix of lectures, case-studies and group work done by the students.
The course is relevant to medical students, public health science students as well as others working within and with health and health systems.

Teachers

Teachers come from the University of Copenhagen and other national and international institutions of higher education. Persons with specific international health competence and experience are also part of the faculty.

Course certificate

A course certificate will be issued upon completion of the course, based on 80% participation.

Credits

4 ECTS

Course structure

This two-week full time diploma course is accredited 4 ECTS and approved as VKO for medical students at University of Copenhagen. The course is taught in English. Students are encouraged to follow the full 2 week course 12 to 23 August, both days incl.

Lectures between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

One or more social arrangements in the afternoon or evening depending on the course-participants interest and initiative.

There is no exam but attendance of at least 80 percent is required in order to get the certificate.

There will be attendance control twice a day during the course.

Partnership with Charité University Hospital in Berlin

In 2012 the Summer School in Global Health Challenges started a collaboration with Charité University Hospital in Berlin to set the agenda for transformative education in Global Health in Europe.
