Department of Clinical Microbiology
Rigshospitalet, University Hospital Copenhagen
Centre for Medical Parasitology at Department of Clinical Microbiology, Rigshospitalet, works on improved diagnosis and treatment of malaria, which continues to have an unacceptable mortality rate despite the use of new antimalarial drugs. The work includes clinical trials of antimalarial drugs and invention of novel treatment strategies through clinical and experimental investigations. Another aspect of the experimental studies is the continued search for candidate vaccines against severe malaria and pregnancy associated malaria. The group works in close collaboration with the other parts of CMP, SSI plus partners at the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Faculty of Life Sciences as well as international collaborators in Africa, India, Europe, and Australia. The Department of Clinical Microbiology also works on teaching and research in diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of numerous other infections of high relevance to International Health, including parasitic diseases.
