Course contents:

In this subject, students learn about institutions and frameworks for global health policy, national health development and global health governance, improving health services, making and implementing policies in a global context, and health policy changes and challenges.

This subject is designed as an overview of the historical and institutional underpinnings of global health policy, as well as the current debates in the field. 

On successful completion of this subject students should be able to:

    • Demonstrate an understanding of the tensions and
        debates in global health policy and how they influence present course of
        policy development

    • Apply the capacity for critical assessment of
        contemporary trends and developments in global health policy

    • Know how to engage with health policy making at
        the global level

Intended participants:

Students will be expected to be familiar with basic frameworks of public health policy before commencing the course. Students are expected to have either undertaken previous coursework on health policy, or have had working experience in global health.
