PhD course: Diabetes in the developing world
This PhD course focuses on the biomedical and environmental causes behind the epidemic development of primarily diabetes and secondarily cardiovascular disease in low and middle income countries - including indigenous populations.
The course will focus on risk factors such as obesity, nutrition, physical activity, foetal programming, seasonality and urbanisation. A focus on selected indigenous populations will serve as cases of people especially susceptible to suffer from environmental changes. Further, the course will discuss prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease as well as address theoretical and practical best practice in low- and middle income societies.
