Intensive course on Non-Communicable Diseases will be available both online and offline

Since the spring of 2010 the Master of International Health, University of Copenhagen, has been offering an intensive course on prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. Starting in 2012 the course will not only be available as an in-situ course In Copenhagen, Denmark, but also as an online course, which can be followed from anywhere in the world as long as you have a computer with an internet connection at hand.

The courses - Non-Communicable Diseases: Prevention and Control - have special emphasis on international NCD programmes and are designed for professionals working in or aiming at a career in the field of global health and NCD prevention and control.

The courses cover the main aspects of NCD prevention and control with a special focus on global and national strategies. They will explore the evidence and the frameworks used to address the burden of non-communicable diseases through action on the conventional risk factors (lifestyle factors such as tobacco use, unhealthy diet, physical inactivity, and high blood pressure, etc.) but also more 'upstream factors' and the social determinants of health (e.g. urbanization, income, education, trade, health transitions).

Local, national and global perspective on NCD programmes

The aim of the courses is to provide participants with an in-depth theoretical and practical insight into how national NCD programmes can be developed, integrated and maintained in a local, national and global perspective. Upon completion of the courses, participants will have strengthened their capacity to become better planners, managers, trainers and implementers of NCD programmes and integrated NCD care and prevention activities.

Our experience from the offline course is that the participants benefit greatly from the great diversity of professional and cultural backgrounds of their co-students. By offering the course as an online course we hope to reach even more students and professionals around the world, who are working to provide global access to NCD prevention.

The dates for the online course in the spring of 2012 are still to be determined. Please visit the website of Copenhagen School of Global Health or read our newsletter for updates.

Dates for the next in-situ course are 14 May to 13 June 2012 - Start your online application now!
